Came to India on student visa in 2015
A police statement said on Monday. According to the police, Godwin, a native of Nigeria's Enugu state, came to India on a student visa in 2015 and joined a pharmacy college in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. However, he continued to stay in India illegally even after his visa expired in 2016. Influenced by his Nigerian associates involved in drug trafficking, he started buying and selling cocaine. His modus operandi involved buying drugs from sources in Mumbai and Bengaluru, which were smuggled into India through various routes. He would then deliver them to customers in Hyderabad using online delivery networks and the dead-drop method, ensuring no direct contact between the peddler and the buyer.
Has been arrested twice
Godwin has been arrested twice earlier for drug-related offences – once by the Prohibition and Excise Station, Dhoolpet in May 2022 and then by the Hayatnagar police in January 2023. After securing bail, he moved to Mumbai to evade police surveillance and continued his operation from Kharghar in Mumbai. On Sunday, he reached Hyderabad with cocaine and was caught while trying to deliver the narcotics. After his arrest, he and the seized contraband were handed over to the Kachiguda police station for further legal proceedings, the statement said.
